How utterly frustrating would it be to see one of your colleagues, or anyone for that matter, suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, have a defibrillator available but not be confident of knowing how to use it?

Training Workplace Heart Attacks

Our goal at NKM is to provide educational training in the correct use of defibrillators to yourself and your employees in the workplace. A defibrillator is used when someone has a sudden cardiac arrest. It works by using electricity to restart or shocl the heart back into correct rhythm.

The defibrillator analyses the heart rhythm and decides whether an electric shock is required and if so delivers one. It needs to be used correctly and as soon as possible to increase a person’s chance of survival.

A defibrillator can save a life, especially if it is used within 5 -10 minutes of a cardiac arrest. Being able to correctly use the automated external defibrillator (AED) that is on hand allows for this life saving resuscitation to be provided.

Our staff at NKM believe that everyone should know how to use a defibrillator and that training on the procedures involved are vital. Our trainers have the expertise to guide you and your employees through the correct processes and use.

We will provide clear and concise instructions on how to recognise and deal with a suspected heart attack victim using an AED. Our training will include how and where to place the electrode pads, and how to read the equipment to know when to stand clear of a patient as a shock is about to be delivered.

NKM’s information presentation and practical demonstration training will remove any concerns you or your staff may have regarding the use of a defibrillator in an emergency situation and any questions you may have in this regard can be fully answered.
Our training can be specifically designed for your workplace however for the most part the training content will cover how to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack
  • Understand coronary heart disease including the difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack
  • Know how to efficiently and effectively operate an Automatic External Defibrillator
  • Understand survival rates

Anyone can be trained in the correct use of an AED.

The training delivered by NKM will provide recipients with the knowledge required to correctly and methodically operate an Automatic External Defibrillator together with the necessary skills required for recognising the signs and symptoms of a possible heart attack and how to tell the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest and competently manage either situation.

When and where an employer decides to provide a defibrillator in the workplace those who may need to use it need to be trained. Training will provide additional knowledge and skills to you or your employees as well as providing greater confidence in the use of an AED.
As an employer you need to provide adequate facilities to provide a workplace that is safe and without risks to health.

When you have decided whether it is reasonable and/or practicable to have an AED on site you will also need to take into consideration the requirements of training your staff in its correct and safe use. You will also need to ensure that it is always unlocked and in an easily visible location.

It is also suggested by NKM that the AED in your workplace is registered with Ambulance Victoria. This helps in quickly locating relevant AED’s in an emergency.

At NKM we can provide you with tailored, in-house training session.
Our team has one goal, to make your workplace a safer place to be.
